AMAC was Awarded a $600,000 SBIR Phase II
grant from NASA to Design a Mag-Lev Cryogenic Transfer Line
November, 2002
ĦĦĦĦ NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has awarded AMAC International, Inc., a high-tech company in Newport News, a $600,000 SBIR Phase II research grant to develop energy efficient cryogenic transfer line with magnetic suspension that offers the potential advantage of extending many missions, saving cryogens, or reducing the overall launch mass for space shuttles. The phase II grant was awarded to AMAC in recognition of its outstanding achievements and developments in Phase I of the project. AMAC is the first company to have successfully demonstrated the application of superconducting magnetic suspension in a cryogenic transfer line. The Mag-Lev design can significantly reduce heat leaks (no solid contact), is more flexible and reduces the transfer loss of cryogens. Technologies developed in this project can also be used by other government organizations such as (NASA, DOE, DOD, TOD, etc.) and private industries such as (LNG facilities, Chemical plants, Liquefied Gases Plants, Power Transmission lines etc.).
